SEM Training
Before embarking on such training, we ask that each new operator gain an understanding of the fundamentals of SEM operation by browsing through The Scanning Electron Microscope - Chapter 7 in Electron Microscopy by JJ Bozzola and LD Russell (this chapter can also be accessed through the library via the ebook version). In addition new operators may find it helpful to watch some of the MSA video tapes specified below (note that this is optional):
MSA Tapes for SEM
- TAPE # 8: Introduction to SEM (57 min.)
- TAPE #23: Basic Optics in SEM (40 min.)
- TAPE #68: Basic Mounting and Conductivity Considerations, Materials, and Principles Prior to SEM Examination (43 min.)
- TAPE #81: Basic Principles of the SEM (60 min.)
- TAPE #82: Contrast Mechanisms in SEM (75 min.)
Experienced SEM operators do not need to go through a theory check-up and can proceed with the appropriate hands-on training.
